Candidates for Alton by-election announced

The candidates standing for election to fill the vacant seat on Alton Town Council have been announced.

The by-election for the Amery Ward is due to be held on Thursday 6 September 2018 and the polling station will be Alton Community Centre, on Amery Street, open from 7am to 10pm.

The candidates are Amanda Durley – Liberal Democrat, Robert Saunders – Conservative Party, and Barbara Tansey – Labour Party.

Electors who would like to vote by post or by proxy instead of voting at the polling station should download a form from the website at: www.yourvotematters.co.uk

Applications for postal votes must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 21 August and applications for proxy votes must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 29 August.

Poll cards will be going out from Friday 10 August and postal votes will be going out from Friday 24 August.

Those who aren’t registered to vote can do so on the website at: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and you must be registered by 11.59pm on Monday 20 August to be eligible to vote.

These application forms are also available from Electoral Services at East Hampshire District Council on 01730 234366 – please apply now and don’t wait for the polling cards to come through your door as this may be too late.
