Charities walk away with funding boost

Monday, 2 December, 2019

Local charities walked away with £15,000 on Friday after receiving the proceeds of this year’s Charity Walk for Peace.

In total 16 charities received money raised through the charity walk, run by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elder Association (AMEA) and East Hampshire District Council (EHDC).

The event, held in May, was the third annual walk and saw more than 300 people follow a 5km route around Petersfield.

Gill Kneller, EHDC Chief Executive, said: “This is the third year we have worked with the AMEA to put on this fantastic walk and each time it has got bigger and bigger and raised more and more money for charity.

“The work the AMEA has done for this district and across the country is exceptional and we are very much looking forward to hosting the walk again next June. We are very lucky in East Hampshire to have such a strong and active voluntary sector and I am delighted that we have been able to support so many charities through this year’s walk.”

Mo Luqman, of the AMEA, said: “The aim of the Charity Walk for Peace is to strengthen bonds and promote peace and community cohesion.

“Among the key principles of Islam are to help and care for those in need and also to live in peace with our neighbours - the walks allow us to help local people by supporting the fantastic charities that do so much great work in East Hampshire.”

Next year’s walk is already being planned and will be held on 6 June 2020.
