Gymnasts have been jumping for joy after a £1,000 grant gave their club a leg up.
The Xcel Gymnastics Club in Horndean received the money from local East Hampshire District Councillor Chris Hatter.
The grant funding has been used to improve the gym by adding new, safer flooring and additional storage areas.
It also enabled the club to buy special blocks to help coaches safely reach gymnasts while they learn aerial moves in harnesses.
Cllr Hatter joined Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond to watch the club in action and they were impressed with what they saw.
Cllr Hatter said: “The coaches are very dedicated volunteers and provide a fantastic experience for these young gymnasts.
“During Covid they continued coaching via online video calls so the members remained in great condition throughout the lockdowns.”
Xcel gymnasts benefitted hugely from this and have had success at southern area and national finals.
EHDC's councillor community grant scheme is a budget of £4,500 allocated to each district councillor to support voluntary and not-for-profit organisations within their ward. These organisations must have a charitable or community goal.
Following the council's Climate Emergency declaration in 2019, £1,000 of allocated budgets must be spent on environmental projects.
