Grants on offer for groups signed up to the EHDC Community Lottery

Wednesday, 22 June, 2022

New grants will soon be available for groups and charities that have signed up to East Hampshire District Council’s Community Lottery.

The Community Chest grant scheme offers grants of up to £1,000 to help good causes.

To be eligible for the grants, groups must be signed up to the East Hampshire Community Lottery and have sold at least 50 tickets over the last year.

The grant scheme opens in September, so any organisation not signed up to the lottery still has time to do so.

The Community Lottery is run by East Hampshire District Council as a way of raising funds for good local causes.

Players can buy £1 tickets from their chosen good cause, with 50p going directly to the good cause, 20p going towards national prizes, 20p on administration and the remaining 10p used to build up the council’s Community Chest fund.

Last year eight local charities received a share of more than £7,000 and it is expected the Community Chest will be a similar size in 2022.

Cllr Julie Butler, EHDC Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Welfare and Community Integration, said: “The Community Lottery is a great way to raise money for your favourite charity. And at least 10p of every ticket sold is collected into the Community Chest which is then used to help even more local groups.

“If you run a charity it really makes sense to sign up for the lottery so you can start generating money for your cause through ticket sales. And once you’ve sold 50 tickets you will become eligible to apply for further funding from the Community Chest.

“We have so many wonderful voluntary groups in East Hampshire and they do an incredible amount of good work for the district. We set up the Community Lottery and the Community Chest as another way to help them do what they do so well.”
