Step forward and sign up for the Charity Walk for Peace

Friday, 5 April, 2019

Kind-hearted East Hampshire residents are stepping forward to raise money for good causes at next month’s fund-raising walk in Petersfield.

The Charity Walk for Peace, a 5km walk, will wind its way through the town and the surrounding area.

The event, organised by East Hampshire District Council and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association, will see hundreds of participants walking through the town centre to raise money for 17 local charities and strengthen community ties in the process.

Walkers are guaranteed a winner’s medal for crossing the finish line as well as a free lunch, prepared and served by the volunteers of the Ahmaddiyya Muslim Elders Association.

Muhammad Luqman Choudhry, of the Adhmadiyya Muslim Elders Association, said: “It’s always great to see the community come together in this way.

“Taking a route through Petersfield town centre attracts a lot of attention and really helps to raise the profile of the walk and the charities we are supporting.

“All organisers are unpaid volunteers and there are no administrative costs, so every penny raised goes to charity.

“I am delighted that once again we have such amazing and wonderful support from all at East Hampshire District Council.”

In all, 16 local charities will receive money, with the proceeds of the walk split between them.

Cllr Laetitia Pienaar has worked on organising the event for the past three years. She said: “We expect this year’s walk to be the biggest and the best yet.

“Last year we had more than 300 walkers and raised more than £10,000 and we’re hoping to smash that record this time round.

“If you want to get involved with this incredible event make sure you go to the webpage and sign up. This will help us know how many medals to bring and how people to cater for!”
