Welcome Back funding supporting local events

Monday, 13 December, 2021

Local towns have received funding from East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) through the Welcome Back Fund to deliver bigger and better Christmas events, welcoming back families to high streets and supporting local businesses.

The money is being used to support Christmas events in Alton – including baby marmots, street entertainers, calendar competition, window decorations and Christmas tree lights – as well as Christmas tree lights and other illuminations in Whitehill & Bordon and Grayshott.

The Welcome Back Fund, developed by the government as part of the Covid-19 response, comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and aims to support the high street and tourist attractions in welcoming back shoppers and visitors.

Councillor Ken Moon, EHDC portfolio holder for Economic Development and Rural Affairs, said:

“The priority for us has been to use this funding to provide real benefits to local people and the local economy.

“It's great to have been able to work in partnership with these town councils to sprinkle a little extra reindeer dust on their events this Christmas.”
