Textile recycling

The Salvation Army has closed its textile banks. Please don't use these or leave donations by the side.

Where possible, please hold any textiles you have so they can be donated once the banks are open again.

Your old clothes, shoes and material can be turned into cash for local good causes at our blue textile recycling banks, run by the European Recycling Company.

You can recycle all kinds of textiles, including:

  • Clothing
  • Household linen
  • Underwear
  • Shoes (in pairs)
  • Accessories like bags and hats

You should put your items into a plastic bag before placing them in the bank.

Even worn or old items can be recycled as long as they are clean. The money raised will go to community organisations and charities.

Items in good condition are sorted by the company to be worn again. Worn out items are used as basic raw materials for something new, like insulation material for new cars, cleaning wipes or blankets for the house removal trade. Rivets from clothes are extracted and sent to metal recyclers, and the plastic bags you put your clothes into are also recycled.
