Making your business carbon neutral may be a daunting prospect but cutting carbon can help you cut costs, that’s the message from an industry expert who will be speaking at the COP26 East Hampshire event in October. Jennie Pell, the Clean Growth Sector Specialist of the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership, will show how small businesses can reduce their carbon emissions at the free event, due to be held at Alton Maltings, on Friday 8 October. The Government has set a target for every business to be carbon net-zero by 2050. It’s a tough challenge that has left many businesses unsure where to begin, but Jennie says there is help at hand to guide people through the process. Jennie said: “In my role with the LEP I speak to a lot of businesses who are just starting out on this journey. They want to do the right thing but they’re not quite sure where to start. “We know this is a big issue, we know it might be daunting. We want people to be confident about what they need to do to cut carbon and realise what a positive impact it can have on their business. |
“This event will show you how cutting carbon can save you money and make your businesses more efficient and more competitive.” COP26 East Hampshire is being run in partnership between East Hampshire District Council and Damian Hinds MP and will look at what is being done locally to reduce carbon emissions and where we can do more. The event will feature an exhibition where organisations can showcase products and services and give advice about how to reduce our impact on the environment and talks from industry experts, including Lord Deben, Chairman of the UK’s Committee on Climate Change. It will finish with a business-focused section, featuring insight from Jennie Pell, low carbon experts Greentech South and testimony from businesses that have taken measures to reduce carbon emissions. |
The Government expects all businesses to be carbon net-zero by 2050 and further regulations can be expected, so taking action now can future-proof your business. Large companies are already under pressure to ensure their supply chain meets certain environmental standards, and that means having a good record on carbon emissions could confer a competitive edge when tendering for contracts. Jennie said: “It is not just large businesses that need to get their heads around this. Every business, from hauliers to hairdressers, will all have to comply with this legal requirement. “Each business will have different ways it can reduce carbon emissions, but there are some things, such as transport or energy usage, which apply to almost everyone. “Becoming carbon neutral by 2050 can seem like a big task, but we can help you find the support you need to help you through it. “We all need to play a part in reaching the government’s net-zero targets.” Businesses can still apply to take part in the exhibition by contacting: georgia.loud@easthants.gov.uk |
