Families around Petersfield have been given the support and guidance they need from counselling funded by East Hampshire District Council.

INTERIM, based in The Spain, is a registered charity providing counselling and psychoeducation to individuals and families in East Hampshire.

In 2021 we agreed to grant the charity £10,000 a year for three years through our Supporting Communities Fund.

The funding was awarded to provide free sessions to individuals and families who have been struck by ill health, bereavement, deprivation, substance abuse, domestic violence or many other reasons.

Over the last year 176 sessions were provided to 23 families by an experienced qualified and registered psychotherapist, either in person at their Petersfield base or via video call.

Sally Floyd, a psychotherapist and counsellor at INTERIM, said: “Therapy - both giving and receiving it - performs a valuable personal and social role, but the cost is too often prohibitive.

“With the support of East Hampshire District Council we have been able to help more people who would never normally be able to receive this kind of professional support.

“We work in close partnership with other charities and community organisations, working with domestic abuse or bereavement, for example, who will refer clients to us.”

Cllr Adeel Shah, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Community Developmentand Engagement, said: “The counsellors at INTERIM do amazing and important work by helping people who are struggling emotionally. They are literally changing people’s lives for the better.

“It's heart-warming to see grant money awarded by EHDC over the last few years being put to such great use and it is another example of the vital welfare support we provide in East Hampshire.”
