Support

Host payments extended to March 2025

Hampshire County Council (HCC) has confirmed that payments to those hosting Ukrainian guests will be extended from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. These will continue at £500 a month from 1 April 2024 for all hosts, however long they have been hosting for. Find out more in HCC's press release.

English language support

Petersfield ESOL classes for Ukrainians who live in East Hampshire

RRN (Rural Refugee Network) is running ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) beginner classes. These are free to attend.

Weekly classes on a Monday between 9.30am to 11.30am running until Monday 25th March at St Laurence Church in Petersfield.

English lessons for Ukrainians - All levels - Alton Maltings

Weekly classes are being run on Fridays 12.30pm–2.30pm at Alton Maltings Centre in Alton for all levels and welcome new and returning students. These are free to attend.

Anyone interested can text or whatsapp on 07454 932056 or turn up on a Friday to class 10-15 minutes earlier.

Hampshire Learns – ESOL classes in Alton 

Do you want to improve your English? For students who can speak, read or write only a few words in English. This course will help you talk, read and write about different subjects and make fewer mistakes so people can understand you and you can understand them.

This free course is aimed at adults currently residing in Hampshire where English is an additional language and would like to develop their speaking and listening skills. It is for people whose English is at Entry 1 and Entry 2 level.

English Conversation Group – Alton Maltings

There is a conversation group run on the first and third Wednesday of every month at the Alton Maltings between 7-9pm. The first hour is English conversation structured around reading material in ability groups and second hour is a cup of tea/coffee and chat in any language. All very welcome to attend.

Hampshire Learns – Free Online Training and Workshops

Hampshire Learns run a number of free online training courses and workshops such as – working in childcare, developing confidence for employment, online ESOL entry level 1, 2 and 3 and preparation for IELTs, developing english writing skills and maths skills.

STEP Ukraine

STEP Ukraine is an intensive, virtual, 12-week English language and employment programme for Ukrainians in the UK.

It is designed to help you find meaningful employment in the UK and improve your English. STEP Ukraine is delivered by World Jewish Relief and the British Council and is funded by the UK Government and is completely free for all participants.

Need help with Maths and Numeracy Skills? 

Multiply is a government-funded programme aimed at helping adults improve their numeracy skills.

Free maths support is available for adults aged 19 and over who do not currently have a Level 2/GCSE maths at grade 4 (previously known as grade C).

  • Courses are FREE and suited to all levels, from Entry Level to Level 2
  • Sessions can be delivered either online or in-person
  • Sessions are available both during the day and in the evening

Ukraine Yoga with Jo

Ukraine yoga classes with Jo are open to Ukrainian guests aged 18 and over.

Every week on Wednesdays at Studio Sixteen in Petersfield from 11am-12noon until the end of February.

£3 per session.

Ukraine Sport & Activity Session - Active8Minds

A range of activities on offer for 5-11 years old. 

Wednesday 14 February 10-11am at Warblington School, Havant

Free to attend, no need to book, just show up. A parent/carer must attend too.
