Cllr Mocatta to take on climate change for EHDC

East Hampshire District Council’s work to combat climate change will now be led by Cllr Robert Mocatta.

Cllr Mocatta is already the council’s portfolio holder for Community Development, Placemaking and Infrastructure and the new responsibilities will complement his current work.

EHDC declared a climate emergency in July 2019 and adopted its Climate and Environment Strategy in August 2020.

Cllr Mocatta is excited to continue the progress begun by his predecessor in the role, Cllr Julie Butler.

"Climate change is the biggest single issue facing the world and the biggest long-term threat to our way of life,” he said.

“I am delighted to be taking on this important issue and look forward to working with our cross-party committees and our local community groups who feel as strongly about the subject as I do.

“The council has dedicated itself to becoming carbon neutral by 2050 or sooner and protecting and enhancing the district’s valued green spaces. Cllr Butler has really set the agenda for the council and I am looking forward to carrying on that vital work.”
