Councillor grants for community groups – apply now!

Clubs and groups across East Hampshire can start the New Year with a financial fillip from their local councillor.

East Hampshire District Council entrusts each of its members with £4,500 to give to projects and organisations in their own patch.

Community groups have until the end of February to apply for a grant up to £1,000.

The applicants must have a project with a charitable goal or which is of benefit to the community.

There are 43 councillors in East Hampshire District Council, each with a £4,500 funding pot.

As part of the council’s drive to improve the environmental performance of the district, £1,000 must be used on projects which raise awareness of climate change, reduce waste or otherwise have a positive impact on the environment.

Cllr Julie Butler, Deputy Leader and EHDC Portfolio Holder for Welfare and Community Integration, said: “Our councillors live and work in the communities they represent and are in the best place to know what is important to the residents of their ward.

“That’s why we give councillors £4,500 every year to distribute to the fantastic local projects that could really use a financial boost.

“The deadline for applying is the end of February, so if your group is running a project that benefits the local community than make sure you get in touch.

“Some councillors may have distributed all their grant money already, but others will be on the look-out for projects to support, so don’t miss your chance.”
