East Hampshire Community Lottery raises thousands for good causes

More than £33,500 has been raised for local good causes through the East Hampshire Community Lottery since its launch in April 2020.

Residents can buy tickets online and pick a charity or community group to receive a portion of their £1 ticket price.

There are currently 57 good causes signed up to the community lottery and receiving a funding boost from their supporters.

Some of the money raised is also put aside in a Community Chest Fund, which East Hampshire District Council grants to participating community groups through an application process.

This month eight grants were issued, totalling £7,156.

Cllr Julie Butler, EHDC Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Welfare and Community Integration, said: “The East Hampshire Community Lottery is a great way to raise money for your favourite good cause.

“There are prizes to be won but first and foremost it is fantastic way to support our charities and community groups.

“Any money raised that is not allocated to a specific charity can be applied for. If your organisation has a project that helps the whole community you can find out how to make an application through our website.”

The eight organisations to receive money from EHDC’s Community Chest Fund are:

  • Artscape: £1,000
  • Basingstoke & Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation Charity: £954
  • Liss Infant School: £1,000
  • Liss Men's Shed: £660
  • Petersfield Community Association: £1,000
  • Petersfield Cricket Club: £1,000
  • Petersfield Voluntary Care Group: £542
  • The Rosemary Foundation: £1,000

East Hampshire Community Lottery tickets cost £1 with 60p going towards local good causes, compared to just 28p in the pound for the National Lottery. The weekly draw has a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers, with other prizes including £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.

The East Hampshire Lottery Community Chest Fund will re-open in September 2022. Find out more about the East Hampshire Community Lottery.
