EHDC takes pride in flying the flag for LGBT+ History Month

Showing solidarity with LGBT+ communities locally and globally, East Hampshire District Council is flying the flag above the council building Penns Place throughout the month of February to mark LGBT+ History Month.

The annual month-long celebration aims to promote equality and diversity whilst raising awareness about LGBT+ history and encouraging further education in LGBT+ issues to stamp out prejudice.

Councillor Richard Millard, Leader of EHDC said; “This year’s theme is ‘Politics in Art, the Arc is Long’ and as an organisation we have come a long way in the progress made towards equality.

"By flying the flag throughout February, it will be a daily reminder of how far we have come, and what still needs to be done to ensure we are inclusive of everyone in our community.

"During this month we will be helping to raise awareness of matters which affect the LGBT community, and celebrate the lives and history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people."

The Rainbow Flag, adopted in 1978, was designed as a "symbol of hope" and liberation.
