Learn to live well with dementia at the East Hampshire Dementia Festival

People living with dementia or concerned about memory loss in themselves or loved ones can discover a wealth of advice and assistance to enable them to live well with dementia at this year’s East Hampshire Dementia Festival.

East Hampshire District Council and Petersfield Dementia Friends are hosting the day on Friday 8 April at the Festival Hall in Petersfield to give people living with the condition, and their carers, advice about the best help available in the district.

The event will offer medical and legal advice, practical help for families and carers, activities and dementia-related services. In addition, Andover Mind’s Dementia Care and Advice Service, and other local services, will be available.

The festival will be opened by East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds and the Petersfield Dementia Choir. Damian Hinds will lead the first Dementia Friends information session where participants will become a 'Dementia Friend'.

Cllr Julie Butler, East Hampshire District Council Deputy Leader, said: “The first Dementia Festival was a huge success and it is a great shame that subsequent events have been beaten by the pandemic.

“However, if you, or anyone you know, is suffering with Dementia you can learn to how to live well with the condition. It is a mine of information from people that know and really care.”

Jeff Williams, Petersfield Dementia Friends Champion, said: "This is a follow on from the successful Dementia Festival in 2019. A great opportunity to get up-to-date information on what support is available in East Hants for families living with dementia and their carers. One new addition this year is the Petersfield Dementia choir which will open the morning and afternoon sessions.”

The rooms in the Festival Hall will be used for different events including a vintage tea room and a Memory Café which in the afternoon will give people a chance to enjoy a musical experience and an afternoon tea with Tea for Two.
