As Ukraine approaches another Independence Day during the conflict with Russia, our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine living in East Hampshire and those who have remained in the country.

On Thursday 24 August, we’ll be flying the flag of Ukraine at our Penns Place offices.

In East Hampshire, we currently have 136 active hosts helping approximately 270 Ukrainian guests through the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

Cllr Anthony Williams, Chairman of East Hampshire District Council, said:

“I am tremendously proud of the number of East Hampshire residents that have opened their homes to Ukrainian refugees, and I am pleased to see so many Ukrainian families settling into the area and becoming a valuable part of our community.

“East Hampshire District Council is here to help hosts and guests through what is continuing to be a difficult time for our Ukrainian families in East Hampshire and their relatives in Ukraine.

“We’ll be flying the Ukrainian flag at our Penns Place offices for Independence Day but our support will be unwavering until our guests are able to return home.”

We have welcomed over 420 Ukrainian guests (200 families) to the district since the start of the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

All hosts through the Homes for Ukraine scheme receive £500 per month from Hampshire County Council.

If you are thinking of becoming a host, please email ukrainesupport@easthants.gov.uk or complete our expression of interest form and one of the team will contact you to discuss this further.
