Green fingers will have rich pickings at the Alton Local Food Initiative’s seed swap this weekend.

Held on Saturday 10 February the event gives budding gardeners the chance to bring in seeds of their own and exchange them with other growers.

As part of EHDC’s Grow Up programme, we have funded the Alton Local Food Initiative (ALFI) to develop their community garden sites.

ALFI, part of Alton Climate Action Network, works closely with the community of Alton and surrounding areas to look after 11 plots in and around the town. The plots provide fresh and seasonal produce to the local community.

We have helped to improve the ground at the station plot, re-plant fruit trees, provide secure storage for equipment and fund a project with the Men’s Shed to preserve and maintain wood beds across all the sites.

The event runs from 10am-noon at Alton Methodist Church, so come along and find out how you can get involved!
