A litter pick by East Hampshire Norse (EHN) on the A31 from Wednesday 10 to Tuesday 16 September has produced approximately 800 bags of litter.

The litter pick was arranged around planned closures by Hampshire County Council’s Highways team.

During the litter pick, teams covered a total of 30 miles of the road from Bishops Sutton roundabout to Hen & Chicken Inn.

Litter included large items such as tyres, cones, mattresses and plastic sheeting.

Councillor Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said:

“This litter pick is a great example of collaboration between East Hampshire Norse and the HCC Highways teams. They’ve been able to get on with their work while our litter teams have cleared significant amounts of litter.

“It goes without saying that we would prefer to have collected very little, but litter is a serious problem on the road.”

How you can help

The best way to stop litter spoiling our beautiful district is to not drop it. So, if you’re out and about, look for a litter bin to put it in. And if you can't find one, please take it home with you.

Please don't leave your rubbish on or near an already full litter bin. Adding to an overflowing bin makes it much more likely that your rubbish will blow onto the floor. If you do find one of our litter bins that needs emptying, you can report it through our website.
