EHDC continues support for Community First
East Hampshire District Council has reaffirmed its ongoing support for the district’s voluntary sector when it met recently with Community First.
Community First provides advice, training and volunteer brokerage to help local charities and community groups grow and thrive. It is currently supported by an annual grant of £60,000 by East Hampshire District Council.
Its work provides opportunities to volunteer and access to support and ultimately creates a strong voluntary sector to help local people in need.
By investing in Community First, the council is helping local organisations build resilience and deliver essential services that strengthen community life.
Cllr Adeel Shah, EHDC Portfolio Holder for Community Development and Engagement, met with Tim Houghton, Community First CEO.
Cllr Shah said: "Community First is a valued partner for East Hampshire District Council, and I was pleased to meet Tim to discuss how we can best support the organisation and the people it serves. During our discussion, I received a report outlining the work Community First is delivering across the district and was reassured that their services continue to meet the needs of our communities. I also shared feedback from several organisations I have spoken with regarding their experience of Community First.
“Their presence is vital to the many local groups and the hundreds of volunteers who do such outstanding work for our residents. We are pleased to continue supporting them in their efforts to assist charity organisations within the district, and we have encouraged them to extend their reach even further so that our communities can continue to thrive.”
Tim Houghton, CEO of Community First, said: "Strong local voluntary organisations and charities are needed more than ever. As we continue to support and complement East Hampshire District Council, we are focused on helping groups access the funding they need, mobilising more volunteers, and working together to deliver support for those who need it most in the district."
