Hampshire police visit Whitehill & Bordon

District Commander visits town to talk over local issues

Crime, anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping were among the subjects discussed when senior police officers visited Whitehill & Bordon to meet our District Team and Cllr Andy Tree, Portfolio Holder for the area.

Chief Inspector Matt Moss was recently appointed District Commander for East Hampshire and Havant and he and Inspector Matt Wake were invited by Cllr Andy Tree, EHDC’s Deputy Leader, to take a tour of the town.

While there they took the opportunity to meet EHDC’s District Team. Among many functions, the EHDC’s District Team investigates fly-tips, enforces litter laws and helps handle dangerous and inconsiderate parking.

Cllr Tree said: “I was pleased to walk with Chief Inspector Matt Moss and Inspector Matt Wake through the Forest Shopping Centre, up Chalet Hill, into the Shed and back round through the High Street, past Tesco.

“As a local councillor, I have no control over policing but feel it is important to represent residents as best I can to work with the police and try to help. We popped into shops along the way and spoke to various people to get feedback and take note of any concerns. I was reassured by hearing from shopkeepers that a police presence around the Forest Shopping Centre has been greatly helping. This sounds positive and I hope it continues.

“It was great that Chief Inspector Moss could also meet members of our District Team. Although a lot of their work is based on enforcement such as fly-tipping, there is a crossover and I am keen to see the police and EHDC work together to keep our community safe and free from blights, such as fly-tipping.”

If anyone is a victim of a crime, please report it on 101 (999 if emergency) or online on Hampshire Constabulary website. Crimestoppers can be used anonymously. If the crime is not reported, it is not recorded, which can affect where resources are allocated.
