ACAN received a grant of £5,361 in the third round of our CCAF grants.

Jenny Griffiths, lead Trustee for the project at ACAN, said:

“Alton Climate Action Network is very grateful for funding from EHDC for our two-year Nature Connect programme of walks and workshops open to all, which is part of our Eco-Streets community outreach programme, led by project manager Scott Gudrich.

"The project aims to reach widely across the community, including the many new housing estates around the town.  As the saying goes, “You will only protect what you love, but you can only love what you know.”

"By offering opportunities to Alton’s residents to deepen their appreciation of the natural world, they are more likely to want to protect nature and reduce the impact of climate change.”

Cllr Robert Mocatta, EHDC portfolio holder for Regeneration and Prosperity (which includes climate and environment) said:

“Our Community Climate Action Fund has supported 29 projects, large scale and small, over the last couple of years to engage the residents of the district around climate and the environment, as well as supporting carbon reduction projects.

“These walks and workshops are a great opportunity for local people to connect with nature and understand the importance of supporting our fragile ecosystem and reducing our impact on it.”

CCAF supports new projects that will benefit the wider community and encourage education on the response to climate change.

A new round of CCAF funding totalling £129,000, funded through councillor grants, will be launched in autumn 2025 - the date is to be confirmed.
