Grants from eight EHDC councillors helped put the next generation of performers centre stage

East Hampshire District Councillors’ support has helped bring the joy of live theatre to hundreds of young people and local residents this summer, through the Petersfield Youth Theatre’s (PYT) annual programme.

Thanks to funding from EHDC, PYT hosted a two-week summer event at Bedales School, culminating in two public performances of Disney’s Newsies and Guys and Dolls.

The productions showcased the talent and hard work of young performers from Petersfield and surrounding areas, including Clanfield, offering them a unique and unforgettable experience.

Eight councillors from Petersfield and the surrounding villages clubbed together to help fund the event, including Cllr Nick Drew, EHDC Cabinet Member, Cllr John Smart and Cllr John Hutchinson who visited the theatre this week.

Lynn Hill, of PYT, said: “I’d like to thank these councillors for supporting this year’s PYT programme.

"Our priority is to give the children a fantastic experience and wonderful life skills while keeping our fees down to an absolute minimum, so it is accessible as possible to all.

"PYT gives children across the district such fantastic opportunities and your funding is invaluable in making that happen.”

The councillors' grant helped ensure the programme remained accessible and inclusive, supporting young people’s creativity, confidence and community spirit.

The eight councillors who contributed are Cllr Nick Drew, Cllr John Hutchinson, Cllr John Smart, Cllr Ian James, Cllr Robert Mocatta, Cllr Roger Mullenger, Cllr Phil Shaw and Cllr Chris Tonge
