This Road Safety Week we’d like to remind all drivers to wait patiently if you find yourself behind one of our waste crews.
Department for Transport figures show that around 2,500 people each year are hit by vehicles driving on pavements, which equates to 10% of all vehicle pedestrian collisions.
It's estimated that the waste industry suffers thousands of near-miss incidents a month, and this is only the tip of the iceberg when you consider the scale of the problem across all private and public sector operations in the country.
Councillor Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said:
“The footage in our video is shocking and I’m sure most of our residents wouldn’t dream of taking the sort of dangerous risks that it highlights.
“I hope that lots of people see it and the next time they’re feeling a little impatient while waiting for one of our crews, they remember what they’ve seen.
“We take our responsibility to keep crews safe seriously and will take firm action if incidents like this occur.”
Our vehicles have CCTV on board that will capture dangerous driving, which will be reported and investigated by the police.
Thank you for waiting patiently.
