Litter picking on the A31

A litter pick alongside the A31 by East Hampshire Norse has cleared around 400 bags of litter.

The clearance, from 15 to 22 April, was done alongside roadworks in the area to take advantage of the closure of lanes and ensure staff could work safely.

Councillor Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said:

“Unfortunately, littering on our main roads isn’t going away and shows a lack of respect for our local environment and wildlife. The main thing that will reduce this problem is drivers taking their litter home and disposing of their rubbish responsibly.

“We were able to organise this litter pick in conjunction with Hampshire County Council’s Highways team to avoid the cost of separate closures and will continue to look for opportunities to clear litter on our main roads when other work is being done.”

How you can help

The best way to stop litter spoiling our beautiful district is to not drop it. So, if you’re out and about, look for a litter bin to put it in. And if you can't find one, please take it home with you.

Please don't leave your rubbish on or near an already full litter bin. Adding to an overflowing bin makes it much more likely that your rubbish will blow onto the floor. If you do find one of our litter bins that needs emptying, you can report it through our website.
