Alton Social Bowling Club has installed solar panels and battery storage on its club house building with support from a £4,500 grant from East Hampshire District Council’s Community Climate Action Fund (CCAF).
The panels were installed in March 2026 and are expected to generate around 8,700kWh and save up to 1,145kg of CO2 per year.
The project has also been supported by Alton Town Council’s CIL fund and Climate Change Fund and a £750 EHDC Councillor Grant from Cllr Ginny Boxall.
Councillor Robert Mocatta, East Hampshire District Council portfolio holder for Regeneration and Prosperity (which includes climate and environment), said:
“There are many different sources of funding out there for projects like this, and I think it’s great that the bowls club has had the commitment to pull that funding together and make it a success.
“I understand that the club house is also now being used to benefit the wider community by hosting art classes when bowls is not being played.
“Community groups looking for funding for projects like this should get warmed up to put in their CCAF application when applications open and be looking for other sources of funding.”
The fifth round of CCAF applications will open at 9am on Friday 4 September and close at 11.59am on Monday 5 October 2026.
