Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN) has used a £10,000 grant from East Hampshire District Council’s Community Climate Action Fund (CCAF) to support a wide programme of public engagement, including weekly and monthly events.
Events include the public screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing film and Petersfield's new repair café.
A packed Studio at TPS was host to the screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing and a lively post-screening debate including Damian Hinds MP in May.
The funding has also been used to support PeCAN in setting up the Petersfield Repair Café which runs on the last Saturday afternoon of each month at Avenue Pavilion.
The café is run by volunteers from the community and visitors can bring broken items to be fixed and learn new skills so they can start fixing things themselves.
Every item fixed that stays in use reduces our impact on the environment, delays the recycling process and saves the cost of buying replacements.
So far more than 200 people have brought over 150 items to be looked at or repaired.
Councillor Robert Mocatta, East Hampshire District Council portfolio holder for Regeneration and Prosperity (which includes climate and environment), said: “Climate Action Networks help organise grass-roots action and provide practical support to residents in making changes that will reduce their impact on the climate and environment.
“We’ve worked closely with PeCAN for several years and they’ve put the CCAF funding we’ve provided to really good use.”
Patricia Exley, Team Leader at PeCAN, said: "The CCAF funding is helping us to reach more residents this year, building community resilience to the changing climate.
"We have engaged hundreds of families through talks, walks, and activities such as maintaining riverbanks. The new repair cafe is a great success, and we encourage everyone to visit us on the last Saturday of the month.
"We are delighted to have been able to increase our volunteer base so we can do more in future. Thank you EHDC for your support."
The fifth round of CCAF applications will open at 9am on Friday 4 September and close at 11.59am on Monday 5 October 2026.
