East Hampshire District Council has taken decisive, robust action to extend an existing High Court injunction, reinforcing efforts to halt any further unauthorised activity at a site in Medstead.
This will prevent more people moving on to the site and further work being carried out, following unauthorised development by travellers.
Cllr Angela Glass, EHDC Portfolio Holder for Enforcement and Regulation, said: “We have acted swiftly and decisively to protect our communities and make it clear that unauthorised development will not be tolerated.
“By extending this High Court injunction, we are not only preventing further activity on the site but we are sending a strong message that we will use every legal power available to prevent further breaches and uphold the rule of law.”
On Friday 22 May caravans were moved on to a field at the junction of Abbey Road and Wivelrod Road and hard-standing and septic tanks were installed.
Following investigations carried out by the Planning Enforcement Team, including a number of site visits over the previous two weeks and the service of a Temporary Stop Notice on Friday 29 May, a case was taken to the High Court in London.
On Friday 5 June the council’s Legal Team, working with London Chambers, attended a High Court hearing and an interim injunction was granted.
This injunction has now been extended to ensure that no more work on the site can happen.
