East Hampshire councillors have approved the generous Council Tax Support Scheme which will continue to help hundreds of low-income households across the district.

At its Full Council meeting, held on Thursday 15 January 2026, East Hampshire District Council [EHDC] reconfirmed its commitment to the 'big-hearted' scheme designed to help those residents who would otherwise struggle to pay their council tax bill.

A continuation of the same scheme as last year, it will assist more than 4800 of East Hampshire’s lower-income households.

The scheme will continue to offer the most financially vulnerable residents a maximum of 100% support, meaning they pay no council tax at all. And others can earn more before it affects the support they receive.

Any changes to allowances will come into effect from April 2026, when new Council Tax bills are sent out.

Cllr Charles Louisson, EHDC Portfolio Holder for Finance, said: “We have always taken steps to provide support for residents with the greatest need and to help people struggling with the increasing cost of living.

"At this time of rising costs for many residents, updating this scheme means more people will receive some sort of support with their Council Tax.

“Our Council Tax Support is one of the most big-hearted schemes around, it is a great example of how we are able to use our strong council finances to continue to help those on low incomes.”

This scheme forms part of our work to help people with the rising cost of living. To find out about all the support available go to our website through the button below.
