Local groups can apply for funding through their local councillor
Five EHDC councillors have donated grant money towards a scheme that will improve accessibility at the Clanfield Observatory.
The observatory welcomes thousands of people each year, including school groups, university students, families, astronomy enthusiasts and first-time visitors eager to explore the wonders of the night sky. However, current facilities can limit access for some people.
A new fully accessible disabled toilet extension is planned that will remove a significant barrier and help ensure everyone can take part in events and activities.
The project has received £6,000 in councillor grant funding, including £2,000 from Cllr Sara Schillemore, £500 from Cllr Chris Hatter, £500 from Cllr James Hogan, £2,000 from Cllr John Smart and £1,000 from Cllr David Evans.

Every EHDC councillor has a budget of £7,000 to support local voluntary and not-for-profit organisations that benefit their ward.

The Hampshire Astronomical Group hopes the improvements will ensure more people can enjoy astronomy and experience the night sky, regardless of their individual needs.
