We’re investigating a fly tip containing asbestos on the Selborne Road near Alton. Please contact us if you have any information about it.
The fly tip – containing roofing materials, corrugated iron and asbestos – was dumped just off the road next to the A31 junction with Selborne Road.
The tip was reported in early April. Specialist asbestos clearance experts have been called in to help clear the tip and look for evidence of where it could have come from.
The tip is going to cost thousands of pounds to clear.
Councillor Tony Costigan, East Hampshire District Council portfolio holder for Neighbourhood Quality, said:
“Everyone knows that asbestos is a particularly dangerous material which can cause serious lung conditions if inhaled and needs to be disposed of safely.
"Whoever has done this clearly doesn't care about the danger it poses and has dumped this by the side of a road rather than arranging proper disposal.
"They probably also charged their customer extra and just kept the money they should have spent.
"It's disgusting. I encourage anyone who might have seen it being dumped or recognises the materials in the fly tip to get in touch."

Found a fly tip?
You can report it through your MyEHDC account.
If the fly tip is blocking the road, phone Hampshire County Council on 0300 555 1388 (8:30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday) or 101 outside those hours.
If you see the offence being committed, please phone the police on 101.
Please be aware that fly-tips can contain dangerous and hazardous materials, so for your own safety we ask you not to touch any tip you may find. Also, please do not remove anything from the fly tip as this could compromise evidence that could help with a prosecution.
