Halloween pumpkins are great for carving, but they can be great for eating too. Millions of pumpkins bought for Halloween are likely to go uneaten, so before yours ends up as waste, give it another life in the kitchen.
🎃 Make the most of your pumpkin
You could:
- Decorate it with food-safe paints rather than carve it - this can help it stay edible for longer.
- Eat the flesh - pumpkin works well in soups, curries, risottos, pasta bakes, muffins and cakes.
- Roast the seeds for a simple snack.
- Save some for later - parboil pumpkin chunks, allow them to cool and freeze them.
♻️ And when you've eaten all you can...
Remove any candles and decorations, then...
There may be a local farm that is accepting pumpkin donations as animal feed, or you could compost it at home if you have a composter.
Alternatively, put the remaining pumpkin in your food waste for collection.
Our crews won’t take any pumkins that are not in your caddy, so please cut them down to help it fit with other food waste for the week.
