Council begins £100,000 of works

EHDC car parks in Alton and Petersfield will be getting maintenance and repairs over the next few weeks as part of a £100,000 improvement scheme.

The works include resurfacing and maintenance to keep the car parks safe and smart. In all five car parks will be improved, Turk St and Lady Place in Alton and Festival Hall, Swan St and Central in Petersfield.

The contractors Rocon started on Monday 24 August and, weather permitting, will spend a day or two at each site before moving on to the next, culminating in a week or so of work in Central Car Park.

Safety and traffic management measures will be in place while the work is being carried out, to reduce the impact on car park users and surrounding properties.

Cllr Tony Costigan, EHDC Portfolio Holder for Property, said: "Car parks are an important part of our communities. They are the main gateway into our towns and it is really vital that they look good, that they're welcoming and create a great first impression for visitors.

"We ask people to pay for car parking in Alton and Petersfield so it is right that the money raised is used to maintain them. This latest round of improvements should bring some of our most well-used car parks into excellent condition.

"This isn't the end of the work - we already have plans to roll out our improvement programme to other towns and villages around the district."

The work schedule (weather permitting) is below.

Alton Turk Street: Mon 24 and Tues 25 August

Lady Place: Tues 25, Weds 26 and Thurs 27 August

Petersfield Festival Hall: Thurs 27 and Fri 28 August Swan Street: Tues 1, Weds 2 and Thurs 3 September
