Hundreds explore digital careers at successful Click event in Alton
Young people, jobseekers and career changers discovered exciting opportunities in the digital and technology sector at a successful new careers event held in Alton.
Click, held at The Maltings on Friday 25 September, brought together employers, education providers and local residents to showcase the wide range of careers available across the digital and technology sectors.
The event was designed to inspire the next generation of digital professionals while supporting people looking to develop new skills or move into a new career. It was organised by East Hampshire District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.
Visitors had the opportunity to meet local employers, learn about skills development and training opportunities and gain first-hand insight into the many routes into the digital world.
The event was officially opened by Damian Hinds MP and featured a range of local businesses, including West Tisted-based emergency vehicle equipment designers OPSES and award-winning video production company Lamplight, alongside other organisations working across the digital and technology sectors.
Throughout the day, attendees were able to speak directly with employers, explore career pathways and learn more about the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly growing sector.
Cllr Robert Mocatta, East Hampshire District Council's Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Prosperity, said: "It was fantastic to see so many people, particularly young people, engaging with local businesses and exploring the opportunities available in the digital sector.
"Digital skills are becoming increasingly important across almost every industry and Click provided a valuable opportunity for people to learn more about the careers available, the skills employers are looking for and the different routes into the industry.
"The enthusiasm from exhibitors and attendees demonstrated the strength of our local digital economy and the appetite for opportunities in this growing sector. We hope the event has inspired people to take their next step towards a rewarding and future-focused career."
Businesses taking part welcomed the opportunity to showcase their work, connect with potential future employees and strengthen links with local schools, colleges and jobseekers.
The event forms part of East Hampshire District Council's ongoing commitment to supporting skills development, business growth and employment opportunities across the district.
Click was funded through East Hampshire District Council's Grow Up programme as part of the UK Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
