Information, guidance and support were at the ready this weekend, as the popular Veterans Festival returned to Petersfield
The popular free to attend drop-in event held on Saturday 19 September 2026 at Petersfield Festival Hall, attracted more than 120 visitors and guests, including an array of dignitaries from local MP's, councillors and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Vice Admiral, Sir David Steel.
The festival gave scores of serving and former members of the armed forces and their families, the chance to meet with service charities and other veterans for advice, assistance and support.
A range of stalls and presentations on various topics were on-hand throughout the day, making it the perfect place for former service men and women to drop in, take a look around, have a chat, and share their experiences with other veterans.
Arranged by EHDC, in partnership with Petersfield Town Council, there were 28 local and national groups offering practical help, with experts on finances, job-hunting and mental wellbeing as well as welfare charities who help thousands every year.
Also at the event, there was an impressive hands-on military vehicle on display, entertainment from the Veteran Outreach Support Choir and Petersfield WI serving tea, coffee & cake.
Cllr Andy Tree, Deputy Leader at EHDC, said at the festival:
"This festival is a fantastic opportunity for local veterans and their families to access a wide range of support, all in one place.
"I'd like to thank all of the groups and organisations for attending, giving their time to come and share their knowledge and experience, offering such valuable advice and support.
"It was the perfect place for ex-military personnel to meet up and engage with one another, and a chance for us all to show our support, celebrate the value they bring to our communities and to thank them for their service.”
Supporting our armed forces community is a priority for EHDC
EHDC's Armed Forces Champion and Royal Navy veteran, Councillor Phil Shaw, said:
“What a fantastic event. I’m incredibly proud that the Veterans' Festival has returned, coming together to show our support for the armed forces community in such a positive way.
"The men and women who serve in our Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy make extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of our country. This festival is one small way of recognising their contribution and giving something back.
"Leaving military service can be a difficult adjustment for some veterans. By helping them find the right support and information, we can make that transition much smoother. Events like this create valuable opportunities for veterans to build connections, access help and thrive in civilian life."
