Project background and vision
Whitehill & Bordon Leisure Centre plays an important role in supporting the health, wellbeing and leisure needs of the local community.
As the town continues to grow, the council has been exploring opportunities to enhance existing facilities and ensure they meet the needs of residents now and into the future.
Following detailed feasibility work and community feedback, plans have been developed to extend the current swimming pool facilities at the leisure centre by creating a new indoor aquatic adventure zone. This extension will provide a modern, engaging and inclusive attraction designed for families, children and young people, while complementing the existing pool provision.
Why is the extension needed?
The current swimming facilities are well used, particularly by families and younger users. However, there is limited provision for informal, play-based water activity, which is increasingly popular and supports wider health and wellbeing objectives.
The proposed aquatic adventure zone will:
- increase capacity during peak family and school holiday periods
- provide new opportunities for active play and water confidence
- support physical activity in a fun, accessible environment
- enhance the overall offer of the leisure centre
- reduce the need for residents to travel outside the area for similar facilities
What is being proposed?
The project involves the construction of a new indoor extension to the existing leisure centre, housing a dedicated aquatic adventure zone. The facility is designed to appeal to a wide range of ages and abilities and will be fully accessible.
Key features are expected to include:
- interactive water play equipment
- shallow splash areas suitable for younger children
- water slides and water features designed for safe, supervised play
- supporting changing and plant facilities
The extension will integrate with the existing building and be designed to operate efficiently, with modern mechanical and filtration systems.
What will the new facility look like?
The following artist impressions show the indicative design of the proposed pool extension and aquatic adventure zone. These images are intended to illustrate the overall look, layout and atmosphere of the new facility.
Final designs may evolve as the project progresses through detailed design and construction stages.
Benefits for the community
The new aquatic adventure zone is expected to deliver a range of benefits, including:
- A high-quality local facility for families and young people
- Increased participation in swimming and physical activity
- Improved health and wellbeing outcomes
- A more vibrant and attractive Leisure Centre
- Support for the wider regeneration and growth of Whitehill & Bordon
Next steps
Subject to the necessary approvals, the project will move into the construction phase this spring. Further updates will be provided on the council website as the scheme progresses.
Residents will continue to be kept informed about key milestones, including construction timelines and any temporary impacts on existing leisure centre operations.
