Further extension of Ukraine Permission Extension scheme (UPE)

From 8 April 2026, Ukrainians will be able to apply for extension within the final 90 days of their current Ukraine Permission Extension (UPE) permission. The 90-day window will apply for first time UPE applications from 8 April, and second UPE applications once open, for those seeking an extension.

Applying at any point within the 90-day window will not reduce the total permission granted. Any remaining valid permission will be added to the new grant.

A written statement from Government clarifies that a child’s permission under any UPE extension will be aligned with that of their parent or legal guardian.

The Government has also reiterated in this guidance that permission granted under the Ukraine Schemes - including UPE - does not count towards settlement in the UK.

The Government will make a statement later this year to outline its long-term position and future arrangements for supporting displaced Ukrainians living in the UK.

Ukrainian driving licence consultation

You may be interested in the following consultation launched by the UK Government on a proposal to add 24 months to the period during which holders of a Ukrainian driving licence may legally drive ‘relevant vehicles’ such as cars and motorcycles, in Great Britain.

Depending on when you became resident in Great Britain, this would extend existing driving eligibility from 36 months to 60 months for some Ukrainian licence holders and from 54 months to 78 months for others.

The consultation closes on 23 April.
