As part of the Environment Act 2021, councils in England are expected to provide a standardised set of waste options, collecting:
- Residual (non-recyclable) waste
- Food waste
- Paper and card
- All other dry recyclable materials (plastic, metal and glass)
The idea of this is to make recycling easier so that the same things can be recycled wherever you are in the country, at home, work or school.
Residual (non-recyclable) waste
Food waste
We are currently working to launch food waste collections in the district.
Other recycling
We collect your recycling and take it to facilities run by Hampshire County Council (HCC). To enable them to sort a wider range of recyclable items, a new materials recovery facility (MRF) is being developed in Eastleigh.
The new MRF is expected to be operational in 2028. Find out about progress with this project on the HCC website.
Until the new MRF is available, we will need to collect the same set of recyclables (paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, tins and cans, empty aerosols) in your recycling (black) bin.
