Community facilities are highly valued in local communities, and are often heavily used. Whilst some areas benefit from a variety of community facilities, others do not.
The condition of buildings and availability of maintenance funds also varies, with significant demand for the use of facilities that are not always in good condition.
The draft Local Plan (2019) recognises the value placed on community facilities, and seeks to protect them from alternative uses (draft Policy DM4: Protection of Social Infrastructure). In addition, the draft Local Plan (2019) includes provision of new community facilities.
To support the draft Local Plan (2019) policies, further information is needed about the extent of community facilities available in the District and their use and condition (outside of the South Downs National Park).
This interim study starts this process, but seeks further input from local groups and organisations. Some information has already been gratefully received from Parish/Town Councils.
