The environmental health team is responsible for enforcing the wide range of legislation in the UK designed to protect the health and welfare of both domesticated and wild animals.

Dangerous dogs

It’s against the law to let a dog be dangerously out of control anywhere.

Lost and found dogs

The council has a duty under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 section 149 to collect and detain stray dogs.

Dead animals

The council will remove most dead animals, both domestic and wild, from public roads and council-owned land.

Animal Welfare Act 2006

Different animals have different needs but all reasonable steps must be taken to provide the most basic care.
