Advice for those looking to privately rent

There is a good supply of accommodation being provided by private sector landlords in the district.

Advice for private tenants

Our primary aim is to try to ensure that private sector residents are living in accommodation that is well maintained, safe and warm.

Empty properties

Under the Housing Act 2004, local authorities can, in certain circumstances, take over the management of properties that have been left empty for over six months.

Houses in multiple occupation (HMO)

We are keen to work with owners and landlords to reduce the risks associated with houses in multiple occupation.

Private sector housing enforcement

We are responsible for making sure that housing in the area is safe and suitable to live in.

Mobile park homes

By law, all residential mobile home sites, and those for static holiday caravans and touring caravans, must have planning permission and be licensed with the local authority.
