You may need to take action or risk your right to vote
Residents in East Hampshire can expect a contact from the council in the coming days as we update the electoral register.
Every year, in a process known as the canvass, EHDC must make sure that the electoral register is correct.
This means getting in touch with residents and asking them to make sure their details on the register are up to date.
If they aren’t right, or if you aren’t on the register at all, then you won’t be able to vote in forthcoming elections.
The next key election in East Hampshire will be to select councillors for the future new unitary authorities created by local government reorganisation.
The canvass involves sending out thousands of emails and letters across the district, so keep an eye out for yours during August.
Please make sure you follow the instructions carefully, if you don’t respond correctly you may be removed from the electoral register.
What to look out for
We will send you either an email or a form in the post.
Email - If we send you an email then you must respond to it. The email will explain how to confirm your household's details online.
Form in the post - There are two types of forms:
- a form that must be completed and returned
- a form that only needs a response if there have been changes to the people living at the property.
The quickest and easiest way to respond to the form is online, using the secure link provided. You will be given a unique security code and a QR code to use.
