Before making a nuisance complaint

Before making a complaint, it is best to discuss it with the person or organisation responsible to see if the problem can be resolved.

Noise nuisance

Unreasonable and ongoing noise can make life very difficult. We have powers to fine people and businesses and remove the sources of noise.

Smoke nuisance and bonfires

A smoke nuisance can be a health concern, particularly if you have respiratory problems. Regular or one-off fires that produce lots of smoke could be considered a statutory nuisance.

Odour nuisance

A statutory odour nuisance is something that is so offensive and prolonged that it significantly interferes with the enjoyment and use of the affected property.

Light nuisance

Poorly designed and badly aimed lighting can have a negative impact on the environment and cause problems for people in the local neighbourhood.

Guidelines for open fires and woodburning stoves

Here are a few simple steps you can take if you use a wood burning stove or open fire.
