Food waste collections off to a good start

In the first week of food waste collections, East Hampshire Norse visited 57,000 homes and collected over 42 tonnes of food waste, roughly the weight of seven African Savanna elephants.

This week’s collections will be on the same day of the week. Please make sure your outdoor caddy is at the edge of your property for 6am on your collection day.

It’s worth making sure your bright yellow caddy sticker is facing the road so crews are less likely to miss them in the dark.

Councillor Robert Mocatta, East Hampshire District Council portfolio holder for Regeneration and Prosperity (which includes climate and environment), said:

“I’d like to thank everyone who joined the service for week one and helped contribute to the amount of food waste we were able to recycle last week.

“Your food waste is now making natural gas - which can be used for power - and fertiliser.

“Council staff and East Hampshire Norse have worked together to provide a good service from day one.

“They’ll be working equally hard this week to iron out any remaining issues, but the vast majority of residents now have access to weekly food waste collections.”

I haven't had my caddies

Our contractor is still in the district, delivering to homes that have told us they haven’t received their caddies.

If you haven’t had yours and have not already let us know, please complete a general enquiry through MyEHDC and choose 'I haven't had my food waste containers delivered'.

If the situation is more complicated than just needing one caddy pack delivered, please call our Case Management team on 01730 234295 (9am-5pm, Mon-Fri).

I’ve just got my caddies, now what?

Put the stickers on your caddies and your refuse (green) bin and start using the caddies.

My caddy was out but wasn’t emptied

Your caddy should be out by 6am on your collection day to avoid being missed.

It’s also worth putting the bright yellow sticker facing the road when you put the caddy out, so the crews can see it more easily.

If your caddy was out on time but not collected, please report it as missed through our website.
