It’s the first day of food waste collections in East Hampshire.
Crews will be visiting approximately 12,000 homes today, collecting food waste which will be used to make natural gas and fertiliser through anaerobic digestion.
The gas from anaerobic digestion already contributes over 1 billion kWh of electricity to the national grid and your waste will help to expand that further.
Councillor Robert Mocatta, East Hampshire District Council portfolio holder for Regeneration and Prosperity (which includes climate and environment), said:
“After many months of preparation, the real work begins today.
“We’ve worked closely with our joint venture partners, East Hampshire Norse, to make sure the service is ready to go.
“I’m sure there will bumps along the way - as you can expect when launching a service for more than 57,000 homes with new vehicles and crews - but I’m confident that we’ve done everything we could to prepare.”
I haven't had my caddies
Our contractor is delivering to homes that have told us that they didn’t receive their caddies.
If you haven’t had yours and have not already let us know, please complete a general enquiry through MyEHDC and choose 'I haven't had my food waste containers delivered'.
I’ve just got my caddies, now what?
Put the stickers on your caddies and your refuse (green) bin and start using the caddies.
What to do with your food waste caddies
I don't know my collection day
My caddy was out but wasn’t emptied
Your caddy should be out by 6am on your collection day to avoid being missed.
It’s also worth putting the bright yellow sticker facing the road when you put the caddy out, so the crews can see it more easily.
If your caddy was out on time but not collected, please report it as missed through our website.
