Heritage and trees
East Hampshire is a well wooded district with approximately 17% of its area covered by trees. It is one of the most wooded districts in the country. Trees make a significant contribution to its fine natural qualities and we take our responsibility to protect and enhance these qualities seriously.

Tree preservation order (TPO)

Tree preservation orders (TPO) protect trees which have significant impact in the local landscape.

Trees and subsidence

Trees are an important environmental asset, however the council recognises that in some instances they may contribute to the subsidence of a building.

Felling licences and tree surgeons

Before appointing a contractor to undertake work to your tree make sure that it is not protected by a tree preservation order or is growing in a conservation area.

Listed buildings

Under sections 1-4 of the Planning (Listed Buildings & Conservation Areas) Act 1990, a listed building is designated as a building of special architectural or historic interest.

Historic building grants

Regular timely and appropriate maintenance will ensure buildings are maintained in good repair and avoid expensive larger scale work.

Tree planting initiative

East Hampshire District Council has committed to see 120,000 trees planted in our district.
