Bin collection changes
Following the festive period, changes to your normal bin collection days are still in place. Normal service will resume on Monday 19 January 2026.
Glass collections are now fortnightly.
Communal glass bins in flats and shared accommodation will also be emptied fortnightly.
Glass collection dates are included on the new bin calendars.
Small items including broken glass should be carefully wrapped and put in your refuse bin. Larger items can be taken to the tip (HWRC).
If your box isn't collected, you can report it as missed in the same way as you would another bin.
Our standard glass boxes are sturdy plastic with a capacity of 38 litres and handles. You can order one from us online. If you have a similar box, our crews will collect it.
Your box must be under 5.5kg in weight. Each loader picks up around 3,500 glass boxes each week and overloading can lead to injury. If it represents a health and safety hazard for our crews, they will not take it.
We can take as much glass as you need to get rid of, as long as it is in a suitable container and doesn’t weigh too much. More plastic boxes with handles can be used if you have excess. It's worth making sure there is a hole in the bottom of your box so water will drain from it if it rains.
It's probably worth putting your house number on your box so you don't lose track of it with your neighbour's ones.
Cardboard boxes can break when lifted or be weakened by rain, so please do not use them.
Our glass crews take care to avoid dropping bottles during the collection process.
Overloaded boxes make this more likely.
If there is broken glass on a public pavement or road, you can report it online and we'll send someone to clear it up.
